Ms.A: Woman major-leaguer by 1/1/06 Background Several men's professional sport franchises in North America have experimented with the idea of women players, typically as a publicity stunt. Some years ago, an ABA (the former "other" basketball league) team had a woman player who practiced with the team, but did not appear in a real game. More recently, the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) signed Manon Rheaume, who played in one exhibition game in 1992. (She is currently playing minor-league hockey and training for the ž Winter Olympics Women Team Canada.) However, no woman has yet played in a regular season game for one of the men's major-league professional sports teams. Claim If, before 1 January 2006, a woman has played in at least one regular-season or playoff professional major league game, YES coupons will pay $1 and NO coupons will pay $0. In all other cases, YES coupons will pay $0 and NO coupons will pay $1. Definitions "woman" means a human female, adult or minor, including male-to-female transsexuals but not female-to-male transsexuals. "played" means, in the case of hockey, basketball, or football, means being on the ice, court, or field as a player during official play, for at least one timed interval or play. In the case of baseball, a plate appearance OR play in the field during at least 1/3 inning is required. "professional major league" means Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL), and the Canadian Football League (CFL), as presently organized (including future expansion teams) and their successors as may exist before 2006. I will judge based on the intent of this claim, if I perceive such intent to be obvious. If such intent is ambiguous I will judge on the basis of the precise wording. If both are ambiguous, I will look for a solution which follows IF/FX precedent insofar as such precedent is apparent to me and applicable to the claim. I will seek the guidance of the claim's owner/author in interpreting the claim. It's his or her question - s/he ought to get the answer sought. If I believe this claim to have met a YES or NO condition, and if I believe judgement will be controversial, I will post a prospective judgement to fx-discuss and forestall entering the judgement for a comment period to be announced in the post.
